Arrive in Hanoi on 24/08/2014 and transfer to Hotel.

Day 1: 24/8/14: Hanoi Arrival

Welcome back to Vietnam the 3rd time! Thank you for choosing Great Expedition “North East Vietnam Adventure”

Upon arrival, meet with your driver at airport for a private transfer to your hotel. Afternoon, enjoy a performance of water puppetry, an art form that developed in the rice paddies of northern Vietnam (only ticket arranged)

Day 2: 25/08/14: Hanoi – Ha Long
Have breakfast in hotel and drive to Halong Bay (180km about 3.5 hours) passing the countryside of the Red River Delta to the UNESCO World Heritage site.

A traditional style Vietnamese Junk Cruise is awaiting your arrival and will set sail at noon today for the 23 hours cruise on this magnificent bay. Lunch will be served on board amidst spectacular views of the bay. Afternoon will visit one of the largest caves in Halong Bay and a beach stop where you can swim in the refreshing waters of the South China Sea. Tonight enjoy a fresh seafood dinner on board your Junk.

Day 3: 26/08/14: Ha Long – Hanoi                                                                  
Participate in Tai Chi on the top deck or simply watch the sunrise over the magnificent bay. Enjoy your morning cup of coffee or juice before setting out to the nearby cave on a row boat. Watch for monkeys high on the cliff tops. Return back to the Junk where breakfast is served, while sailing around Bay Tu Long bay where the movie “Indochine” was filmed.

Your cruise will end at noon and you will meet your guide & driver for the trip back to Hanoi. Transfer to Chezlinhlinh House.

Day 4: 27/08/14: Hanoi – Ba Be
After breakfast, you will drive to Ba Be through a road to Thai Nguyen. Take a few stop along the way to visit hill tribal villages.

Arrive in Ba Be in early afternoon. Check-in at homestay in Pac Ngoi village of Tay peoples. The rest of the time is free and easy for you to discover the village and landscapes around the lake.

Overnight at the homestay.

Day 5: 28/08/14: Ba Be Discovery
All day boat trip in Ba Be Lake which lies out in the middle of green mountains. Across the lake, your boat will join Nang River then cruises upstream to visit Puong Cave. From here, upon your request option, we could make biking trip in the loops in the Ba Be National forest to Pac Ngoi, canoe downstream or simply take a boat back to Dau Dang waterfall.

Lunch would be severed at pirate Hien, a Tay an inhabitant who lives on the river bank.

Return by boat to Pac Ngoi village. Walking tour of the village of Pac Ngoi where populated by Tay ethnic group with about 1.1 million members and live mainly in the valleys of North East Vietnam.

Second night at homestay.

Day 6: 29/08/14: Ba Be – Bao Lac
Breakfast at homestay, drive to Bao Lac, arrive in the city of Bao Lac in mid-afternoon, check-in at hotel and make the afternoon excursion to the village of Khon Khuoi where around 70 Lolo families live and still keep self-sufficient economy and. In the past time, Lo Lo as well as many other ethnic groups practiced slash and burn agriculture and fled to Vietnam from seventeenth century due to civil war in China.

You cannot visit the village without special permits and this community is a peculiarity in Vietnam, since they are not influenced by the consumption in Vietnam.

Living in living a closed community, depend on raining season for rice cultivation, Lo Lo’s life seems to step back to another era, seems to be a unique oasis where, despite the natural hazardous, everything is still beautiful. This is the special expedition of North East Vietnam Adventure

Fearing evil spirits and tigers, wolves and wild animals, at nightfall, they hide in the darkness of their house; gather around the light of kitchen to listen the old folk stories. The shaman of the village lays out two millennia gongs, precious, rare objects at funerals to call the rain, or to open the door of another world. A wonderful world of simplicity, fragile and doomed.

Return to the hotel in the late afternoon.

Day 7: 30/08/14: Bao Lac – Dong Van
Breakfast at hotel, you will go ahead to Dong Van, mountainous district of the province of Ha Giang. You could make a few stop, especially at Ma Phi Leng Pass, a promontory overlooking the valley with thousands of mountain peaks to Chinese border or along the road to merge yourself in the world of mysterious Chinese black and white painting.

Arrive in Dong Van, a small town in the highlands of Dong Van Karst Plateau which recently recognized as the Global Karst Geopark. The area is inhabited by mainly H’Mong peoples who live in very difficult conditions as they lack of farmland and water. You could admire their will to conquer the nature and hard works of H’mong descendent from centuries building there beautiful house with the wall from each stone load on the other without cement.

Il the afternoon, make an easy day to explore Dong Van in the afternoon.

Day 8: 31/08/14: Dong Van Market – Lung Cu – Pho Bang – H’mong King’s House – Ha Giang
After breakfast, depart for Lung Cu, the far most point in the north of Vietnam where members of Vietnamese GPS wish to mark the arrival.

Drive back to Lung Tam then stop visiting the old palace of the king of Hmong before driving to the other side of Dong Van then following national road 4C to Ha Giang. On the way you could pass by Pho Cao and Quan Ba district to take some photos.

You could make several stops along the way to discover villages, taking pictures of long, bending roads, breathtaking scenery or to communicate with the peoples. Arrive late afternoon at Homestay in Ha Giang. Overnight at hotel.

Day 9: 01/09/14: Ha Giang – Luc Yen – Vu Linh
After breakfast, farewell to our hosts and drive to Vu Linh through Viet Quang and Luc Yen which is well-known for its market of precious stones (especially ruby) village. You will drive through beautiful scenery of limestone mountains. Stop at Luc Yen to visit the market and the villages of Tay and Red Dao.

In the late afternoon, arrive at the lakeside village of Vu Linh, inhabited by Dao white pants. You are greeted by the host at homestay on stilts

Day 10: 02:09/14: Vu Linh – Sapa
Breakfast at homestay; make 01 and half hours boat tour in Thac Ba Lake to discover the lives of people living on fishing and beautiful scenery of the lake.

On the way to Sapa, visit the village of Pa Then peoples then continues to Sapa. Farewell to the family then drive back to Luc Yen before taking road to Lao Cai and Sapa. Arrive in Sapa in the late afternoon and farewell to driver and tour-guide.

Day 11 – Day 12: Sapa Free time
Own arrangement.

Day 12: 04/09/14: Sapa – Lao Cai – Hanoi
Pick-up by private car, transfer Mr.Kurt Janssen and wife to Lao Cai to take night train to Hanoi.

Day 13: 05/09/14: Hanoi Arrival – Departure
Arrive in Hanoi, own arrangement to Chezlinhlinh House.

Early check-in and breakfast at Chezlinhlinh, late check-out until 18:00PM. 10:00PM Pick-up and transfer to airport for taking flight home. End of North East Vietnam Adventure
