Discover four highest passes of North Vietnam

O Quy Ho Pass (Lao Cai)

The O Quy Ho Pass, connecting the province of Lao Cai to that of Lai Chau, another name Hoang Lien Son. This pass is at 2,073 meters, surrounded by clouds all year, giving it a unique natural beauty. With the length of 50 km, O Quy Ho Passis considered as the “King of the Northwest Pass”. O Quy Ho Col is always the destination for many local and foreign tourists who love adventures on the high mountain.

Khau Pha Pass (Yen Bai)

Khau Pha Pass is located between Van Chan district and Mu Cang Chai district in Yen Bai province. It is ranked 2nd in the top four highest passes of North Vietnam. It’s surrounded by many great landscapes such as La Pán Tẩn, Mù Cang Chải, Tú Lệ, Chế Cu Nha, Nậm Có, which are located at an altitude 1,200-1,500 m above sea level. Traveling by motorbike on this pass, you can enjoy wonderful rice terraces and the beauty of the Tú Lệ valley.

Pha Din Pass (Son La and Lai Chau)

Pha Din Pass, whose name, according to the language of locality, meant frontier between Heaven and Earth. With a length of 44 km and its highest point of 1,648 meters, it is one of the most dangerous Northwest passes. The pass’s majestic and wild beauty makes it unique. People also remember Pha Din as the place linked to Dien Bien Phu’s victory in 1954.

Ma Pi Leng Pass (Ha Giang)

At 2,000 meters height and about 20km length, the Ma Pi Leng Pass (Ha Giang Province) is one of the most dangerous passes of the Northern mountainous region. Ma Pi Leng means “the horse’s nose”. It is associated with a well-known road called “Road of Happiness” connecting the Ha Giang city to Meo Vac district where the scenery is majestic and strangely intact. The Ma Pi Leng Pass belongs to the entire limestone plateau of geological Park Dong Van. In 2009, the mountain of Ma Pi Leng was recognized national relic by its geological structure and landscape. Ma Pi Leng is a favorite destination for those willing to explore the mountain peaks.
